Posting, Posting, Posting

It appears that I am just full of things to say tonight.  I just finished cleaning out my car.  This was an obligation since I quit smoking, I wanted my car to not smell like smoke!  Now it smells like fabric cleaner.  Not really sure which one is better at this point.  Anyhow, I got all the wood into the garage today as planned, I took the dog for a nice long walk and I even managed to have a decent lunch at home!  I was able to go the entire day without spending a dime!  Now I’m having a cocktail and thinking about what I want to do this evening.  Christine and her sister are here, the mess creators, not sure what’s going to go on tonight.  Anyhow, I’m going to go surf the Internet for a bit.  Here’s a picture to keep you happy.

Thought Process

Question:  If someone creates a mess in a communal space, and I wasn’t the creator of said mess, am I obligated to clean it up?  I don’t personally think so.  Any thoughts?

How Much Wood?

29 09 2007

It’s that time of year again.  I have a backyard with a huge pile of wood, now I need to go sort and stack it all in the garage so we are ready for the winter.  Having a bit of a hard time motivating myself to do this work today.  It’s sunny, beautiful, and I’d much rather do something else.  Oh well, it has to get done.

Today marks 1 full week of NO SMOKING!  This little adventure has actually been easier than I thought it would be.  Work has actually helped a great deal.  My team members (most of them) are ex-smokers so they have been very helpful and encouraging to me with the quitting process.  I’ve been using the Nicotine patch and that has significantly lessened the withdraw symptoms and I’m using my health insurance web site that has a smoking cessation program on line with articles and interactive tools to keep myself busy.  I’ve quit before (for about a year) but I don’t think I really had the same motivation to quit as I do now.  The reasons to quit are many but I think for me one of the most important reasons is realizing the amount of money I was sucking away each week.  Figure an average of $5 a pack and generally I was smoking 6 packs a week.  That translates to $30 a week or $1560.00 a year I was spending just to support an unhealthy habit!  There are SO many other things I would rather spend my money on right now!  This week, just to congratulate myself, I went out and spent $30 on a new pair of jeans.  I NEVER buy things for myself because I never had the extra money to do it.  When open enrollment comes around this fall for my retirement 401K program at work, I have decided that I will contribute the $30 I would have spent on smoking to my 401K.  I’ve got some catching up to do with the retirement program…this will help!

I took the dog for a hike up to Pyramid Point yesterday.  It was just beautiful.  The colors are starting to come out and there is a little chill in the air.  That hike is no joke!  Steep grade and not a great trail.  The payoff is great though, you can see for miles up there.  Check out the picture!

Jirar comes home tomorrow for a couple days.  He’s found his groove now as a flight attendant and seems to really like his new job.  I’m glad he’s found something now that he really enjoys.  I hated seeing him just get pissed off dealing with dip-shits at Meijer.  That’s one thing about retail, your job will only ever be as good as the people you have to work with every day.  If they don’t want to be there, it can be awfully hard to find the motivation to succeed yourself.

Anyhow, now I’m off to split wood.  I will be trying to write as much as possible as I continue my efforts to quit smoking.  When I have something to do all the time, the urges are less and I get a LOT more done!

The “Cottage”

26 09 2007

Well, amazing.  The cottage is now nearly complete.  The upstairs windows went in today and the shake shingles were hung.  Only thing left now to do is have a dishwasher installed and hang up the blinds.  It’s taken since the end of May which, in fact, is not really that long a time considering what they have done to the house.  It’s completely different now from what it was.  Very cool to see.

The weather is getting frightful up here.  Starting to turn colder which means that I’ll be writing more often now that I can’t get outside comfortably much longer.  I’ll be posting a batch of fall colors on leelanauphotography.com in a few days.  If the weather is nice this weekend, I am going hiking with my dog and my camera.  Hopefully to bring back some choice pictures of my favorite time of year up here.  Stay tuned.

I’m still a non-smoker!!  YEH.  It’s been 4 full days now since I’ve smoked.  I am using the patch to help me quit.  Even though the ‘success’ rate is less than 10% by users of the patch, it seems to help me pretty well.  My biggest problem is finding things to do when I would normally just go have a cigarette.  Normally, I’d have chosen to just go smoke rather than spend this much time writing a blog entry!  I need to get into an exercise routine and kick this expensive habit for good.  I can’t afford to smoke anymore….and not just monetarily.

Helpfully I’ll have a little more to say tomorrow.

WOW, long time no post!!!!

25 09 2007

Dam, it’s been a long time since I’ve bothered to post on this blog. This week I’ve made a renewed effort at keeping up this writing thing. Guess why…….I’VE QUIT SMOKING AND NEED SOMETHING TO DO!!!!

I have decided that one way to kick the habit is to replace one bad habit with another. So, here is my other bad habit: BITCHING about the moron red necks that surround me every day! Having a blog is nothing short of blowing your own horn and honestly, I have no problems doing that except that really the only people reading this are likely family members. Well, to that extent, sorry for being an offensive bitch. If I’m required to be a properly socialized human in real life, you must at least allow me the opportunity to be a raving lunatic while on line! No, really, I love you all…..just be glad that I’ll never speak to you this way in real life. More in a few hours…or days…or whatever.
