About ME

My name is David and I live up in the northwoods of Leelanau County, MI. It’s a pretty rural place for a gay city boy to end up but I love it up here. I spend most of my time working but when I have down time, I spend it at the beach on Lake Michigan with my dog Gavin and my partner. The rest of the time I take pictures hoping that someday they might be worth something.

Some very breif historical facts about me and my life:

I am an alumnus of the American Boychoir School and I spent a good majority of my teens and 20’s performing as a Countertenor with the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys.  They had a web site about 2 months ago, apparently they didn’t renew their domain.  Anyhow, I also worked for the GRCMB for 7 years as a music theory instructor.  I helped develop a comprehensive music theory curriculum for this choir based on RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) standards and to my knowledge, that curriculum is still being used today (although I have no proof of that).  About 10 years ago, all the music stuff ended and I decided to take my life in a different direction.  For those of you that care, I have no regrets about leaving behind the choir lifestyle that was such a huge part of my life.  I had accomplished more musically and professionally by the time I was 25 than most 40 year old adults and I was burned out.  I needed to make time for other aspects of my life, for other people in my life.  I am still very passionate about boychoirs and about music but its just not how I have chosen to earn a living.

In 1999 I met the man who would become my best friend and my husband.  I won’t talk about him here because he’s not given me permission to do so but suffice to say, we settled down got 2 cats and a dog and have been with each other ever since.  He is my reason for getting up in the morning, I hope we can make it last forever.

Today, I am a Department Manager for Menards in Traverse City Michigan.  I’m not out at work but it’s not a huge leap for anyone to figure me out.  I’m a little old school when it comes to my sexual orientation.  Quite frankly, it’s none of your business what I do in my personal life.  I go to work, earn a living, and then I go home.  In retail, I don’t have to integrate work and my personal life, I can keep them separate and I do.  If you want to know who I am just ask me but I won’t volunteer any information just to keep up appearances.

So that’s about it, my life in a nutshell.  Obviously I have an ego or I would not have this blog and I have all kinds of opinions about all kinds of things.  Hopefully you read my writing with an open mind and enjoy or at least get a kick of of what I have to say.  Send me an email if you need something but better yet, just leave a comment or two on this blog sharing your thoughts on what I’ve written.  I like hearing from people, I like knowing what you think too!

Don’t forget to visit my photography web site, leelanauphotography.com.  I love to take pictures, especially nature since I live in one of the most amazing places in the country for taking pictures.  Enjoy!
